What am I carrying while hiking?

What am I wearing on the AT?

What are you going to eat?

When you are likely to be burning 5,000-6,000 calories per day, food becomes very important. But it has to be balanced with how much weight you are prepared to carry.

Strategy

Most of my planned resupply towns have been selected based on their proximty to the trail. No distance between the trailhead and town is included in the 'official' mileage, so , the more you can avoid doing the better off you are.

Maildrops

I will be mailing myself a package of 6 days supply to Fontana Dam, approximately 2 weeks after starting. This include Cliff Bars, a large Chocolate bar, Trader Joes Tuna Curry, Carnation Instant Breakfast and Whey Protein powder. I'll also include in this package, the WingFoot book, just in case the iPod system fails within the first two weeks.

There are a few towns in which I'll package food and mail to myself further along the route. One I'm planning on sending from is Hanover in New Hampshire
